1st Place, Amanda Duncan
Amanda Duncan: When Amanda Duncan's mother told her the touching story of the David family and little Makenna, Amanda knew she wanted to learn more and become involved in the organization. She got to see firsthand the incredible care children receive at Kentucky Children's Hospital when her 7-year old cousin, Charlie, was a patient there. Amanda is a Master hair stylist at Hair & Beyond. Her favorite hobby at the moment is photography and Amanda loves having Sunday dinners with her extended family.
About The Makenna Foundation: Makenna David was just 2 years old when she died from a rare lung disease. Today, friends, family and supporters work to fulfill the mission of The Makenna Foundation: to bring the children and families who are served by the caring professionals of Kentucky Children's Hospital the joy, hope and courage that Makenna knew. The Makenna Foundation was established in 2001. In 2008, the Foundation began raising funds for the Makenna David Pediatric Emergency Center, a gift to the children of the Commonwealth, an honor to the memory of Makenna and a source of pride for The Makenna Foundation's supporters and Kentucky Children's Hospital.
2nd Place, Meredith Pritchett
Meredith Pritchett: At age 14, Meredith Pritchett's kidneys failed. She was fortunate enough to receive a kidney transplant at age 15, and around that time, she began volunteering with Kidney Health Alliance of Kentucky. Her first job out of college was becoming the executive assistant of the organization, an experience that guided her to her career as a medical social worker at Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital. A mother of two young boys, Meredith enjoys traveling, reading and working on projects around the house and in her yard.
About Kidney Health Alliance of Kentucky: Kidney Health Alliance of Kentucky was incorporated in 1972 and currently serves an average of 500 kidney dialysis patients each year through a variety of patient service programs. It also hosts 100-150 patients and their families at events like the Awards and Appreciation Banquet, Patient Services Fair and Patient Picnic. KHAKY annually hosts the Walk with Sidney in March and Trees of Life each December to raise awareness and generate funds for the programs and services of the organization. This year, the KHAKY is also hosting "A World of Horses" art contest.
3rd Place, Joy Robyn Fenwick
Joy Robyn Fenwick: One of Joy Robyn Fenwick's favorite things about working with the Lexington Public Library Foundation is the fact that it gives back to all ages and stages of life, from Baby's First Library Card to teaching seniors to use the internet. Joy Robyn loves hearing back from people about their fond memories of the library and its programs. Joy Robyn is a stay-at-home mom who works part-time at AJ's Casuals and is starting an accessory business. She has been married for six years and has two little boys. Joy Robyn loves doing anything to stay creative!
About Lexington Public Library Foundation: The Lexington Public Library Board of Trustees created the Lexington Public Library Foundation in 1997 to provide leadership for its fundraising program and to serve as an advocacy group to promote the Library. The Foundation's Board, comprised of twenty-three community and business leaders from the Fayette County area, raises funds through annual giving programs which are used to enhance the quality and range of Library services. The Foundation also sponsors two major events: an author dinner, "A Night of Literary Feasts", and cocktail party with music sponsored by the Young Professionals Committee, "Bluegrass & Bourbon".
